Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Whisk together cake dry ingredients. Stir in the milk, butter, and vanilla, mixing until smooth. Pour into an ungreased 8-inch square glass baking pan.
  3. In a small bowl, mix pudding dry ingredients. Sprinkle evenly over the batter. Pour hot water over the top. Do not stir.
  4. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the center is almost set. Let stand for 15 minutes, then serve. Use the chocolate sauce in the bottom of the pan to spoon over servings. Garnish, if desired, with ice cream or whipped cream.
